Zuli Tums, whose real name is Sam Ssemwogerere, is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, music producer and recording engineer. Born in March 1992 and raised in Kamwokya, Kampala, Zuli Tums developed an interest in music at a young age and gradually transformed his passion into a professional career.

His stage name, Zuli Tums, carries a personal meaning. According to interviews, “Zuli” was derived from the name of his late grandfather, while “Tums” represents the phrase “Tell the Universe about Me, Sam.” The name therefore reflects both his family roots and his personal identity as an artist.

Zuli Tums developed a strong interest in music production while he was still at school. His passion for production grew during his secondary-school years, particularly around Senior Three, and he began developing his skills through practice and self-learning.

Before becoming widely recognized as a recording artist, Zuli Tums spent several years working behind the scenes as a producer and recording professional. Through his production career, he worked with several Ugandan musicians, including Maro, Pallaso, Vampino, Young Mulo and Cindy, among others.

One of the productions associated with his early career was “Mabanja” by Vampino. His production work later extended to other projects, including “Boom Party” by Cindy and collaborations with various established artists in Uganda.

In 2020, Zuli Tums began making a major transition from primarily working behind the scenes to developing his own career as a recording artist. He joined Blacq Avay Records and Entertainment and began focusing more strongly on singing, songwriting and releasing his own music.

The COVID-19 lockdown period became an important chapter in his journey as a recording artist. During a period when the entertainment industry was facing major challenges, Zuli Tums used the opportunity to concentrate on his own music. Songs such as “Tabu” and “Easy” helped introduce him to a wider audience and strengthened his identity as a recording artist.

In November 2020, Zuli Tums released his debut album, “Invictus.” The title is a Latin word meaning “unconquered” and was chosen to reflect his experiences, determination and journey through challenges. The album contained 12 tracks and included a collaboration with Nigerian artist Skales.

Some of the songs associated with Zuli Tums include “Easy,” “Tabu,” “Oluvanyuma,” “Uberman,” “Counting On You,” “Bulamu,” “No You,” “One Minute” and “Savanah.”

What makes Zuli Tums particularly notable within Uganda’s music industry is his experience on both sides of music creation. He is not only a singer and songwriter but also a producer and recording professional. His background in production has given him a deeper understanding of songwriting, recording, arrangement and the technical side of music.

Although he established himself through production, Zuli Tums has continued to develop his identity as a recording artist. His music reflects his experience in the studio and his desire to create songs that connect with listeners both in Uganda and beyond.

Zuli Tums has also expressed ambitions of taking his music beyond Uganda and reaching a wider African and international audience. His career represents a journey from a young music enthusiast in Kamwokya to an accomplished producer and recording artist with his own catalogue of music.

Away from his professional music career, Zuli Tums has described himself as someone who enjoys spending time with friends and family. He has also mentioned interests such as football, cartoons, comedy and pets, while generally keeping much of his private life away from the public spotlight.

Today, Zuli Tums continues to build his career through singing, songwriting, music production and recording. His journey from production to performing demonstrates his versatility within the Ugandan music industry and his determination to establish a lasting musical legacy.

Zuli Tums remains focused on expanding his catalogue, reaching new audiences and taking his music to a broader African and international platform.
